Focus on Power Quality
On May 27, 2025, everything at the Balthasar-Neumann-Technikum Trier (BNT) revolved around electricity, disturbances, and how to detect them – during a specialist training session on Power Quality. The training took place as part of the European project CERTEB_OPT.
The session was led by Thomas Schwarz (Application Engineer) and Wolfgang Reitmeier (Sales West) – both from A. Eberle GmbH & Co. KG – who demonstrated in a practical way how to precisely measure, evaluate, and improve the quality of electrical energy.
Using the »WinPQ mobil« software, participants worked through simulated but realistic grid disturbances and practiced how to process and interpret measurement data – for example, in cases of harmonics or voltage deviations. This allowed theory and practice to be meaningfully combined.
With live measurements, illustrative examples, and state-of-the-art analysis technology, the training conveyed how disturbances in the power grid can be identified and energy losses reduced. Especially in the context of CERTEB_OPT – which employs digital building models and energy monitoring – these skills form a solid basis for further energy-saving measures.
Teachers from BNT and project participants took part in the session. They not only benefited from the technical know-how but also discussed the appropriate use of measurement devices within the project framework.
The training clearly demonstrated that modern measuring technology can help identify energy-related weak points in schools and public buildings, thus laying the foundation for noticeable improvements.
